Professor Xia has long been engaged in the research into prevention of atherosclerosis (AS) through nutritional and dietary approaches. Focused on the association between glucose and lipid metabolic disorder and the underlying molecular mechanisms, the main research highlights are as follows: (1) The protective effects of anthocyanin on atherogenesis, the underlying mechanisms through which anthocyanin regulates cholesterol transportation, suppresses lipid synthesis and ameliorates insulin resistance and oxidative stress, as well as the protective effects of anthocyanin intervention on AS risks in patients with hypercholesterolemia and type 2 diabetes.; (2) The association between retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4) and the progression of AS, and the underlying mechanism through which RBP4 modulates hepatic lipid synthesis. Association between retinoid acid and NAFLD and its protective role in AS progression.
